Students that participated in the State Renewable Energy Challenge

Three teams from Virginia Middle School recently traveled to James Madison University to compete in the Virginia State Renewable Energy Challenge. This exciting competition gives students the opportunity to design, build, and test renewable energy systems while applying real-world engineering and problem-solving skills.

In the wind energy division, Isaac A. and Eli M. designed and tested their own wind turbine, focusing on blade efficiency and energy output. In the solar energy division, Max H., Chelsea R., and Brayden R. created a solar-powered farm model that successfully powered lights, a motorized fan, and a working water pump. Ian M. also competed in the solar category with an innovative ceiling fan motor doghouse, demonstrating creative application of solar energy in everyday life.

While none of the teams placed at the state level, all students represented Virginia Middle School with pride. Their hard work, creativity, and teamwork made the trip both successful and memorable.

A special congratulations goes to Mrs. Eileene Allison, who was honored as the Virginia State Renewable Energy Middle School Coach of the Year—an outstanding achievement recognizing her dedication to student success and STEM education.

Great job to all of our students for their efforts and for showcasing the innovation happening at Virginia Middle School!
