Students in Mrs. Allison’s Advanced Tech Ed class have been hard at work learning about structural engineering through a Bridge Design Project. After exploring different types of bridges and structural design concepts, students followed the Engineering Design Process—sketching ideas, creating final drafts in CAD, and preparing their designs for production. Using a laser engraver, Mrs. Allison cut each bridge, which students then weighed and tested using a tension tester. They calculated efficiency by comparing the strength of their bridges to their weight. After the initial tests, students began refining and improving their designs. The class looks forward to testing the improved bridges in the coming days to see which design proves the strongest and most efficient.
