but not today we've got three things to get done first of all we're going out there notebook have a ton of stuff the past that to you we need to get it through down nice and neat in your notebook so you can use it to help you and help you study that is Friday second of all we need to complete the physical chemical notes third we're going to work on missing work or if you have everything turned in your which is Thursday here is the table of contents where is the front flip it over and I'll get everything down get the physical chemical or not just put it off to the side because we're going to be working on that physical chemical foldable now it's going to go over physical pain this is a really cool foldable I really like this foldable we are to take note here it's two pages okay how to do is you're going to cut around this border here here and on the second page here so go ahead and pause the video and cut those five things out that once you have those going to do it take this and that you can color this so it nice and neat or he just want to hurry up and get the notes understand that's okay with that snow what it looks like you're glue it right here to the top again you can color that make it look nice and neat if you want if you're going to watch this video don't let this drop announcer put this is you can actually come on while you watch this video Let's see my friend and I have just gone to a birthday party can we start a gift bag that's full of candy and makes me an offer that I can't refuse without looking gummy frogs I think that's what I want fortunately I have a secret a what are regions in the bag I can use the properties of the candy to help me guess if I want a gummy frog I'm going to be around for something something it's kind of slow squishy and you know frog shaped but how else can we use this idea I mean in other non candy related contact doesn't work on school supplies breakfast cereals Hardware said spice properties we already know that is substance is matter that's made of one kind of atom or molecule and that has specific properties and that some substances are elements which means they can't be broken down into other substances through physical changes or chemical action we also know that we can group substances in Elements by their properties like they found that all of the metal thing from the bottom of my backpack or shiny and attracted to a magnet so metals have high reflectivity and what else do we know about metals watch investigation we know that metals are good conductors of heat and electricity and metals are often silver or gray in color let's try another substance what are some properties of gases let's think way back to some of our first videos when we talk about gases Barnett Jackal have no definite size or shape the molecules in a gas right out to fill the container there in like carbon dioxide and oxygen these property both of these gases fill up the space there in and are transparent gases and metals are just two examples of groups of substances that have specific properties and because of properties are pretty specific they come in handy when we're trying to find out about an unknown substance so let's get the investigation rolling say we have two unknown substances both of the same kind of whitish and powdery how can we tell them apart now would be the time to go over it important scientific rule what should we do remember what we tried to do is Vans and will sugar dissolve in water so we took a spoonful of each I known substance if I dissolve it the one that dissolved would be the sugar one of the properties of sugar is that it dissolves in water anyone has been in the ocean will tell you dissolve in water but now it's time to live this time we'll look at two mystery objects that are totally hidden from view our mission should you choose to accept it is to find out which one is metal use our sense of touch we can tell it is not very flexible it doesn't flexor give when I press its object on the other hand is pretty malleable it squishes when I touch it so far we can make a guess that is metal but in science the more evidence the better because malleability or the ability to change it's actually a property of some soccer medals so we need more data magnet as properties of being hard and being attracted to the magnet I guess that it's the middle of the big old nail and frog so substance is an element has Civic properties and because of this we can use properties like hardness malleability or magnetism to tell something about or even to identify unknown substances doesn't matter if it's candy or handy Hardware gummy frogs what you need to now is pick up the square physical property you can fold it in go ahead and told it cuz that's how but you need to open it up and you need to copy down the following up physical property is any characteristic of a substance that can be observe without making a permanent change so for instance the color the smell the freezing point some things that would not be physical property property because the identity of the substance Boiling Pot of water that is the boiling point of that pot of water so you're going to fold your physical properties to glue it down on your notebook just like this so it is going down just like this is it'll open up and you can write on it let's talk about Castle properties and I need you to do the following notes a chemical property is any characteristic of substance that might be observed when it undergoes a chemical change it is a living organism what is it when it when it was because the identity of the substance does not change Bissell properties so now what you going to do if you're not going to believe that physical properties and now it'll you can color make it look pretty let's go and watch a video about what don't talk with your mouth full man oh, me too but you know what I love even more s'mores I brought chocolate and graham crackers so we can make some yeah what's up something wrong he's crackers are broken into pieces look it's just a physical change what do you mean physical change physical change is just when the size shape or state of matter changes the Packers broken difference is there still graham crackers we can use them yeah I know it just stinks that they broke what happened to physical changes like this happen a few different ways motion pressure or even temperature could have made the crackers break what was my backpack when they were in there maybe I should have turned it around is Ron is probably exactly why they're broken now but as small as the pieces are they are still graham crackers and their molecules haven't check so there's no way I could change their molecules how would I do that there are Lies when the molecules of matter change its called a chemical change chemical changes usually can't be reversed like physical changes can when the molecules change turns into something totally different like the logs that are fire logs are still logs but not for them the extreme heat of the fire is causing a chemical change that turns and Walks from what to ask yeah I see some at the bottom of the fire I guess I didn't realize it used to be the locks how can you tell if it's a chemical change and clean if gas forms if light or heat appears when the change takes place or something changes colors you know like when you see a penny that looks green or rest at the bottom of an old car I guess it's good that I didn't drop the box of crackers in the fire that would have Magno s'mores 4S if they Chris Hedges Bernstein wouldn't have been able to turn them back into crackers he probably wouldn't even be able to tell they were crackers to begin with so really broken progress not so bad no good you got it okay I think I understand the difference between a physical and chemical change now breaking the crackers was just a physical change because only the form of the crackers was changed temperature pressure or motion like me throw my bag around can cause this a chemical change changes the molecules in matter and that can't usually be reversed a physical change can be reversed most of the time I'm just going to pretend I under say thank you so let's get the notes for physical change get your little describe the physical change the definition is a change in reaction taking place and it's usually some examples of melting popsicle if on the Sol is a question about a physical change just remember physical change physical change physical change change is an eye exam the chemical reaction takes place usually that's not reversible what you need to do now is the time you're going to go right underneath on your paper and it is going to look like a new substance is formed through a chemical reaction usually take typically something rust catching something on fire. Acid chemical change typically anything. so a non example of that would be a physical change because the chemical reaction in a physical change doesn't take place what you're going to do is you are now going to put that it will look so cool and you need to be so proud of yourself it'll stay on your paper handy dandy foldable so when you study you can quiz yourself and you can open up each one of these flat irritated and physical chemical change when you're done with that you need to work on your makeup work ueg which is due Thursday I love you guys be good talk to you later
