Mrs. Dean explains information students need to know concerning their high school transcripts.

good morning today we are going to be reviewing transcripts you should have a copy of your individual transcript and a copy of the graduation checklist new checklist has the sea diploma requirements on the front and the advanced studies requirements on the back so the first thing I want you to do is look at the transcript itself it should have your name at the top and your address please make sure that information is correct if there is any errors in that information if you would please mark on your transcript and return it to your teacher at the end of The Advisory and then we can make sure those are fixed in our computer your transcript depending on your grade level and have just a few classes or it may have several classes today we are going to look at your transcript and compare the graduation requirement the two different diploma you can earn our standard diploma and an advanced studies diploma USA if you are a freshman sophomore you may not yet know what diploma you're seeking Juniors and seniors you probably know at this point if you're pursuing us advanced studies the difference between the two diplomas for an advanced you have an extra year of math history and science and you have to take 3 years of a foreign language that's the name different as you were looking at your transcript I want you to take the graduation checklist and go ahead and mark off the courses that you have already completed I'm going to go through a standard diploma can give you some guidelines on how to look for those classes so if you look under the English  and you can see that you need for English credits to graduate you need me to wash 9 10 11 12 that can be regular English and could honors English it could be dual enrollment English need to pass a reading and a riding Sol so in looking at your transcript if you've already completed English 9 with a A B C or D then you can check that off staying with English 10 11 and 12 under your math section you need 3 math credits for standard and for for an advanced for a standard diploma typically soon will take Algebra 1 part 1 Algebra 1 part 2 geometry and geometry B and then algebra functions and that would meet your requirements for the advanced the standard diploma geometry Algebra 2 which is required and then an additional math so in looking at your transcript I want you to take a moment and go through and check off all of the math credits that you have earned the next section is science a standard diploma requires three sciences and typically that is environmental Science Biology and Earth science an advanced studies diploma requires four sciences and one of them has to be chemistry you also have to have a science SOL to graduate and Amethyst about which I failed to mention earlier I need a math Sol to graduate one of the stipulations in the math Sol is it has to be taken at the high school so if you took Algebra 1 at the middle school and passed that Sol you will still need a math Sol here at 4 High School I failed to mention that earlier sorry under your science you've only to science fsol typically the first of all the students take his biology he passed that esta well and then you don't need that any longer you won't have to take any more with the Sol did you have to pass the course to get a credit and then you have to pass the Sol to get your verified credit so they're two separate thing so go ahead and look over your transcript and see what science says you've already completed and check off your boxes for the science the under social studies for the standard diploma you need three for an advanced studies you 4 for standard diploma it can be World Geography or world history 14 it in Van store Willard war world history everybody has to take for genuine us history and government in the Virginia US History you have an option to take dual enrollment government you have an option to take dual enrollment or AP Government so it doesn't matter which form but everybody has to take those courses and you are required to take a history Sol to go look at your transcript and review the history courses that you have taken and make sure you check those off Wellness everybody needs PE 9 npe 10 to graduate that is a requirement by the state there are other PD classes that you can take the strength and conditioning conditioning forces but you everybody has to take pe9 in PE 10 to go ahead and show to see if you have completed those requirement enter life skills everybody is required to take see is computer information systems econ and personal file so if you've taken those courses go ahead and check off your boxes for those and if you have not you can see when you can fit those in in your schedule in addition to those classes everybody has take one of these you either have to take in a p a d e honors course or pass an industry certification so if you taken an APD honest for your good if you have not and history certification can be earned in one of the CTE classes can earn one in computer information system econ Building Trades Auto Tech culinary arts cosmetology all of the MCPE program you have an opera ready to earn and Industry certification that you just need one of those in order to graduate for both diplomas under the standard you need some elected official your 22 graduation or credit Mission requirement everybody has to have sequential elective and what that means it's art one or two two years of chorus to yourself and tears of drama Arkansas Tech one and two everybody is required to have those sequential elective and then the additional electives to complete their first Android is 22 credits and for an advanced it is 26 credit so when you're looking over your transcript in your checking off these boxes you have to make sure that you have passed the class just taking the class does not meet the requirements you have to pass the class in order to get the credit does it you that are seeking in advance. diploma will also have the foreign language requirement so you can take three years of one foreign language or two years of two different foreign languages does Spanish one two and three Latin 12 or you can take Spanish one and two or Latin one in two so you can go ahead and look on your transcript and see what you have taken and check those boxes off as far as the Sol go when you're looking at your your transcript it is going to lift the classes ft is the final grade that you made in the class credits earned or how many credits you are in so if you failed a class is going to say 0 if you pass the class is going to say one ever in the right-hand column it's going to say verified credits and those are your Sol so if you have world geography and you pass that class and you have a 1 in the verified credit means you have completed all of the requirements for that Sol so some of the Sol is that you all have taken this past semester are not uploaded on the transcript yet so don't worry if you pass for another month just you can go ahead and check off on your graduation checklist that you completed it but don't worry that it's not showing on your transcript so we wanted you to be able to do this today so that could see where you were as far as your credits you're SOL so that you can start planning for scheduling for next year in a few weeks we are going to make a rising Junior and planning their schedules for their senior year when we do that you will have an opportunity to sit down with your counselor to go over everything but having this transcript in hand will show you what you are lacking in order to graduate so you want to make for that every year you take the required classes for freshman sophomore junior sand seniors so that you can make sure you graduate on time with all the credits if you need the electives are throughout the four years and you can plan is out accordingly but having your transcript in hand when you're planning your schedule is going to be very helpful to you and so that you know what to take for next year also on your transcript in the right hand side is a summary and that is going to give you your current GPA your current GPA is all of them are all of the classes that you've taken average by the number of credit and that is what you will use when you become a senior to apply to colleges and things like that also to make you eligible to play sports in college you have to maintain a certain GPA the rank right now is not showing on your transcript because our rank is not calculated in till the end of the year so at the end of the year you will have a class rank you can be neither one of the lowest number in your class so your class rank is a is a total number of the point that you have everyday is worth Four Points be there were three and it adds up to the total number of points to earn your class rank so that is updated at the end of every year it will show you your credit attempted in the credits earned see where you stand as far as the number of credits that you need to graduate it'll also show your verified credits the number of Sol is that you have passed and your absences so be mindful of your absences because he's transcripts with you for life when you graduate and you apply for colleges or for a job down the road everybody needs their High School transcript so it's a good indication of a student you were did you come to school thanks please be mindful of that if you have passed any industry certifications that would be listed under the credential section of your transcript and then at the bottom it'll show you there's a legend if you took a d class under attributes you may have an age for honors deap DL stands for distance learning things like that so all of those things are updated every semester and it is we have a copy of this in the counseling office so at the end of the semester all the credits that you earn that the classes that you are currently in will be updated so is
