The Queen of Hearts campaign is a month-long, fund-raising event which started in 1964 as a community service project. The Tri-Cities has received national recognition for raising more than $2 million in our area. Each February, girls from Virginia High School, Tennessee High School, John S. Battle High School, Abingdon High School, and Sullivan East High School attempt to raise the most money for the American Heart Association. The high school that collectively raises the most money wins the Crump Memorial Award that recognizes the school for its achievement.

During the month each candidate, her campaign managers, and teams of volunteers raise money to benefit the American Heart Association for research to combat heart disease and stroke. The girl that raises the most money at the end of the month is crowned Queen of Hearts at a gala held for the candidates and campaign managers.
