All instructional personnel are required to participate each year in professional development programs. The board will annually review its professional development program for quality, effectiveness, participation by instructional personnel, and relevancy to the instructional needs of teachers and the academic achievement needs of the students in the school division.
The goal of the Bristol Virginia Public Schools' New Teacher Induction Program is to ensure that newly employed teachers are provided with the resources and guidance that will help them make a successful transition in becoming self-confident, skilled professional teachers. All beginning teachers will be mentored over a one-year period using the ETS Pathwise Induction Program.
