Dear Parents/Guardians of VHS Students:
It has been brought to our attention by the Bristol Virginia Public Schools IT Department, that numerous VHS students are attempting to violate the Computer Use Agreement (Policy GAB/IIBEA). Students are violating the policy by attempting to access a Virtual Private Network such as Duck-Duck-Go, Hot Spot Shield, Free VPN Proxy, Hide Me, PrivateVPN, and many, many others to bypass BVPS safety and security measures. The increase in unacceptable computer use requires that we implement a related standard discipline procedure.
Below will be the new implemented discipline procedure for violation of the computer use policy.
1st Offense: 1 day of In-School Suspension and attempt to contact the parent/guardian
2nd Offense: 1 day of In-School Suspension and loss of computer privileges until a parent/guardian comes to the school for a conference
3rd Offense: 1 day of In-School Suspension and loss of computer privileges for one week
4th Offense: 1 day of In-School Suspension and loss of computer privileges for the remainder of the semester
The new discipline procedure will be implemented immediately. Please review with your student the importance of following good computer use practices.
Respectfully,
Jan. M. Huffman
