Jan. 6: Virginia High ONLY Procedures

Prior to school closing for Christmas Break, an anonymous threat was reported at Virginia High School that referenced January 6. The Bristol Police Department has investigated the alleged threat, but have not yet identified the source. We have no reason to believe the alleged threat is credible, but as always, we will take appropriate steps out of an abundance of caution. As a result, the following precautions will be made:

  1. The Bristol VA Police Department and Sheriff’s Office will provide additional presence at VHS.
  2. Students will be scanned through our newly purchased portable metal detectors upon arrival. Guests will also be scanned.
  3. We ask high school students to leave all book bags and other bags at home. Laptops and chargers may be carried separately. Athletes should contact their coach for direction.
  4. In order to expedite this process, we ask that clothing with added metal and unnecessary jewelry be avoided.
We will continue to work with law enforcement to identify the source. If your child knows anything about this situation, please contact the police or school system. Once identified, we will recommend the individual be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed by school policy and the Code of Virginia.

We have posted a resource guide for parents on our website. https://4.files.edl.io/caf0/11/22/19/181327-22e9d572-0804-448d-9f7b-8a83ddd43c53.pdf
