Here are some things we can do to help kids manage the worries and negative feelings about Coronavirus:
  • Let kids know it’s okay to worry and it’s okay to talk about those worries
  • Limit news and social media exposure
  • Stick to routines and set timers if needed
  • Practice deep breathing strategies
  • Practice creativity and imagination
  • Use a journal to write down feelings and worries

This school year, your child participated in a curriculum called Zones of Regulation. The goal of the curriculum is to teach children about self-regulation and how to strengthen their self-regulation skills.

Zones of Regulation groups all the ways that children feel and act into four “Zones”.
Blue Zone—when your body is running slowly, such as when you are tired, sick, sad or bored.
Green Zone—when you are ready “good to go.” You feel happy, calm and focused.
Yellow Zone—when you feel your engine running high, such as when you are frustrated, overwhelmed, silly, wiggly, excited, worried, anxious, or surprised.
Red Zone—is when you have “flipped your lid.”  You have extreme feelings such as terror,
uncontrolled anger, aggression, or elation.

Your child should be able to identify what zone they are in when asked.  Students also learned what tools they can use when they are in certain zones, to help them get back to the green happy zone.  Using the Zones of Regulation in the home could help when your child is struggling with certain feelings and emotions.
