THE MARGARET H. ST. JOHN POOL IS NOW OPEN FOR PUBLIC SWIMMING ON SATURDAYS ONLY FROM 1 - 5pm. Cost of admission is $5 per swimmer.
The goals of the Aquatic Program at the Margaret H St. John Swimming Pool are to present comprehensive school and community activities serving preschoolers through adults. This program is designed to combine education with recreation and competition in the hopes of involving every member of the community.
We offer swim lessons to the public during the summer. Please call the pool office for more information (276) 821-5889 or email Mrs. Boyle: [email protected] (this is the best way to find out information) Pre-registration is a must.

SUMMER 2023
June 7 - August 5, 2023
Monday thru Saturday 1pm-5pm
Monday thru Friday evenings: 6:30pm-8:30pm. The diving board is closed Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings when lessons are being held.
FALL 2023
The hours will change after August 5, 2023 due to school and teacher in-service. The pool hours will be on Saturdays 1-5 pm ONLY until September 30, 2023. The pool will then reopen for Saturdays only on March 9, 2024.
Our summer program for public swimming will begin on Wednesday June 7, 2023. The hours are listed below.

After September 30, 2023 the pool will be closed to any and ALL public use until March 9, 2023
The Pool hosts swim meets on Tuesday and Thursday night during the summer. On those nights there will be no public swimming.
AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFE GUARDING CLASS
The next ARC Life Guarding class will be held here at the Margaret H. St. John Pool at Virginia High School beginning in February . Participants must be 15 yrs old to be in the class. The class will be held Monday through Friday night 5 pm - 9 pm. All participants MUST pass 3 skills tests which will be done on Monday night prior to the class room portion. The 3 skills tests are as follows:
- Swim a continuous 300 yds using freestyle or breaststroke
- Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
- Retrieve the brick from the deep end and return to the side in 1 min 40 sec or less
Successful completion of the class will certify the participant in ARC Life Guarding, CPR, 1st Aid and AED for the Professional Rescuer which is good for 2 years.

Summer 2023 SWIM LESSONS: NONE
Our lessons have changed ...we will offer 8 lessons beginning in June on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30 pm. . We will start taking registration for these lessons beginning May . Pre-registration is a must. You can email Mrs. Boyle at [email protected] or by calling the pool office at 276.821.5889 and leave a phone number that we can get back to you. When emailing PLEASE include the following information about your child:
- the name and age of the child
- your name and email address
- how well the child swims
- if the child participated in or completed a Red Cross swim class and what level they were in last

Cost is $2.00 per swimmer, until June 1, 2023 when it will change to $5.00 per swimmer.....during the evening lessons the diving board will be closed to public use.
