About our program:   Students at Virginia High can take
Art 1, Art 2, Art 3 and up during their years at VHS as it fits their schedule.

Beginning students are introduced to basic drawing skills, with heavy emphasis on perspective and shading.  Over the course of the year, they work in assorted media, such as watercolor, acrylic, oil pastel, and clay.  A school art show is held each semester to showcase the work students created during the year.  Students may also participate in showcasing their work via the school's online art gallery.  Through our gallery, everyone is encouraged to view our students' work, and perhaps join a fan club or leave an appreciative comment for our artists.

Students in Art 2, 3, and 4 work on expanding and developing their artistic skills with assignments of increasing difficulty, while some students also devote time towards preparing a portfolio for college submission.

A facebook page has been set up to help students keep track of deadlines and to keep families informed about what students are doing in class. It can be accessed at: https://www.facebook.com/msmartinvhsart.

Art Club:   Students who have completed Art II and maintained an A average during both art courses are eligible for membership into the Art Club.  The purpose of the club is to provide additional enrichment activities and resources to our students who demonstrate a mastery of the subject and who are considering further art studies in college or to possibly pursue a career in the arts.

Art Club members help produce our annual student art calendar.  Additional educational opportunities are offered to Art Club members, and these meetings may include short field trips to local exhibits, a guest artist or a brief workshop after school.
