2022 December BEST Winners

Gail Edwards
  • Gail Edwards, Nominated by a Colleague
    • Above and Beyond:  Gail works extremely hard on a daily basis to keep HV looking great.  I have seen her come in not feeling well and still do her job with a smile on her face.
    • Extraordinary Leadership: She always does her job with a smile on her face.  She makes sure to greet every student.  She is loved by students and staff.
    • Exceptional Contribution:  Gail has been known to come back when we have parent events to make sure the trash has been taken out and the building is clean.
Appropriate Situational Response:  Gail is truly an asset to both HV and BVPS.  She is always willing to do anything to help.  When the night time custodian is out she volunteers to stay late and help keep the building clean.

Brandon Guffey
  • Brandon Guffey, Nominated by a Colleague
    • Above and Beyond:  Brandon commits easily to dozens of after school hours to build the band and guard program. He is the head of the entire CIPA board, which is a title he took on to help his student succeed.  He is constantly spending time working with students who may or may not take his class to teach them new instruments.
    • Exceptional Contribution:  Countless rehearsals and competitions, various audition, and somehow he still never misses work.  He is always on time and prepared to teach.  He spends time repairing instruments, creating and scheduling events, and doing the jobs no one else would do….like cleaning the track after every practice, coming in early to paint the field, working long hours in concessions over the summer to provide for his classroom.
    • Extraordinary Leadership:  He has been a personal mentor to me in my beginning semesters with BVPS.  He leads the marching band quite successfully.  He has taken additional leadership roles on the state and regional level to better support and represent his students and the district.

Missy Mize
  • Missy Mize, Nominated by a Colleague
    • Exceptional Contribution:  Will extend her services beyond school hours to follow-up on a student by checking on them at home.  Makes sure parents/guardians are informed about every medical need at school.  Informs parents if meds need to be refilled and notifies them of any accidents or reactions to food or environment.  Takes extra care of students who are diabetic.
    • Extraordinary Leadership:  She has done home visits to check on students health after they have gone home for the day and also contacts parents if the student is having any health issues at school.  Demonstrates how to use medical tools if needed.
