Bristol, Virginia is a city strategically situated in the southeastern United States. Bristol is part of the metropolitan statistical area of Bristol, Johnson City, and Kingsport, commonly called the Tri-Cities.

Philosophy
Bristol Virginia Public Schools believes in providing a wide range of programs, classes, and pupil services to accommodate students’ varying abilities and needs. Our goal is for each student to fully develop their mental, emotional, and physical potential while recognizing their individual worth and responsibilities in a free society.
Schools
The Bristol Virginia Public Schools is comprised of four pre-k/kindergarten-5th grade elementary schools, one 6-8th grade middle school, and one 9-12th grade comprehensive high school. A new intermediate school is expected to open in August 2024, at which point the four elementary schools will consolidate into one pre-K- 1st grade primary school and a 2-5th grade intermediate school. All schools are fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The division’s annual budget for 2022-2023 is $42,787,379, with a per pupil expenditure of $22,843.

Qualifications
The board has established the following qualifications for the next superintendent of Bristol Virginia Public Schools:
- Once hired, the candidate must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia, with living in the City of Bristol preferred.
- Teaching experience is required.
- An earned Doctorate is preferred.
- Building level administrator experience is preferred.
In addition to the above requirements, candidates should also demonstrate the following:
- Consistent presence in the schools, school activities, and the community.
- Advocates for the schools and communicates effectively on behalf of the school division.
- Expertise in curriculum and instruction.
- Experience in budgeting and finance.
Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed or be eligible for licensure as a superintendent in Virginia.
