Black History Month

February Milestones in Black History

Black History was made all year round, not just in February. Black History Month was first envisioned by Harvard professor Carter G. Woodson, who helped designate the second week of February as “Negro History Week” beginning in 1926. (February has been designated as Black History Month by every U.S. president since Gerald Ford in 1976).

We hope that the moments in Black History listed in the Timeline and Calendar attached below (some significant and some light-hearted), along with birth and death dates of notable African Americans, can be discussion starters during February (and beyond).  The Timeline links are my favorite!
