Centers are used in my class to enhance each child's learning style. Center time is a mixture of teacher directed activities and free exploration activities. Children work in centers Monday through Thursday for forty-five minutes a day. The centers used in my class consist of Listening, Writing, Games, Art, Math, Letter, House and Blocks.
Centers are created around specific themes or seasons during the year. Management of centers is vital for me as a teacher. I want to know that all children have had the opportunity to complete the activities in each center. Therefore, children begin by placing their names in the center of their choice. After the first day of centers, children's names are moved daily so that each child can participate in all activities for the specific theme or season.
Centers take two weeks to complete because of the large number of children served by the three classes in the kindergarten suite.
