Classes Taught:
- World History I (8th Grade; 05-present)
Students will be taught the historical development of societies from ancient times until CE 1500. Students must be able to use critical thinking skills to describe, analyze, and evaluate the economic, political, and technological developments of these societies during the time period. This class is designed for the highly motivated student or the student who enjoys a challenging course. Students who successfully complete this course and pass the End-of-Course SOL exam will receive high school credit for this course. An A/high B average in advanced reading is not required for this course, but is highly recommended.
- Contemporary World Issues (8th Grade; 05-06, 07-present)
Students will study issues currently affecting their world in this course. These issues and events will be analyzed from a historical, political, social, and geographic perspective, while paying close attention to comparing the past with the present. Students will use various media in this class, such as the internet, newspapers, magazines, and news broadcasts, to help them to explore the issues and to help them develop critical thinking skills.
- Civics and Economics (7th Grade; 06-07)
Students will be taught a basic understanding of civic life, politics, and government. It is designed to help students understand political systems as well as the relationship of American politics and government to world affairs.
