Bristol Virginia Public Schools
School Board Goals 2005-2006

  • Continue quarterly meetings with the City Council

  • Work with the City Council to equalize teachers' salaries

  • Take active role in Bristol's sesquicentennial celebration

  • Continue to develop a working relationship with the Washington County Board of Education

  • Prioritize system needs in the six-year plan

  • Complete the remaining track projects
     

Administration Goals

Curriculum, Instruction, and Staff Development

  • Evaluate staff development practices for effectiveness

  • Review fourth and fifth-grade history pacing/curriculum guides and make appropriate changes

  • Examine the effectiveness of grades K-5 reading programs

  • Monitor the transition of students from the elementary to the middle school and from the middle to the high school

Student Services, Special Education, and Health and Safety

  • Develop a student/parent handbook for alternative programs

  • Conduct a major revision of the Student Responsibilities and Rights Handbook

  • Explore additional ways to improve attendance

Administration

  • Assist special education teachers in assessing and obtaining their individual appropriate highly qualified status

  • Design an employee handbook

  • Revise the evaluation instrument for classified employees

Finance

  • Identify areas most important to employees and evaluate the effectiveness of departmental interactions and procedures

  • Implement the comprehensive risk management program

Technology

  • Evaluate software products that will assist teachers in the creation and maintenance of course syllabi, lesson plans, and grade books

  • Address network security by improving protection against intrusions, viruses, spam and spyware

Facilities

  • Within budgetary and construction constraints, improve facilities for the culinary arts program
