| I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree
from Milligan College in 1973, graduating with a double major
in Psychology and Education. In 1977, I earned a
Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from
the University of Virginia. I am certified to teach in
grades NK-9 and have over 30 years of experience in
the field of education. Additional experiences and certifications that have both broadened and enhanced my career include being the Project Coordinator for the AmeriCorp program for Southwest Virginia Community College, and working extensively with Adult Education, Alternative Education, and Career Planning. I am a Qualified Mental Health Professional for the state of Virginia, certified in Family Counseling and Crisis Intervention, with a specialization in At-Risk Youth. I am also a certified instructor for the Moral Kombat programs, which are Education and Awareness Intervention Programs for At-Risk Youth. These programs are based on accountability for at-risk youth, with a focus on emotional control and lifestyle principles. In 1998, I wrote and published a book called the World's Most Forgotten Grandmother which sold over 4,000 copies. I have one son who is a music producer in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to spending time with my family and friends, my hobbies include writing children's books, developing hands-on children's characters, reading, bicycling, walking, and visiting the beach. I am a nature buff at heart and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. |
