About Me
I graduated from King College with a B.A. degree in Behavioral Science in 1992. My certification includes K-4 and K-12 special education in learning disabilities, mental retardation and emotional disturbance.
I began my teaching career in 1992 in Smyth County at Chilhowie Elementary where I taught developmentally delayed children in grades K – 3. I taught there for 7 years before moving to Bristol with my family. I was fortunate to be able to stay at home a few years while having my two sons. I was afforded the opportunity to watch them grow and develop and I home-schooled my oldest son for kindergarten. I returned to teaching in Bristol, VA in December 2005 when I accepted a part-time position at Virginia High School in the special education department. Upon learning of the opening at Van Pelt in 1st grade, I jumped at the opportunity to return to elementary. I began teaching at Van Pelt in September 2006.
I met my husband while we both attended King College. We were married in 1992 and began our married life in Marion, Virginia. We moved to Bristol in 1999 and have lived here since that time. We are blessed with two wonderful sons. Our family enjoys playing and watching sports, taking walks in nature and playing games.
