Greetings! My name is
Heather Lawson. I've been
teaching for Bristol Virginia
Public Schools at Stonewall
Jackson Elementary School since
1999. I've taught the 2nd,
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades
throughout my educational career
at Stonewall.
I knew I wanted to be a teacher
from a very young age. I
had wonderful elementary school
teachers who sparked a love for
learning and high school
teachers who inspired me to make
a difference in the lives of
others as they had made a
difference in my life. My
love for education continued
after I graduated from John S.
Battle High School in 1994.
Pursuing my teaching career, I received
an
Associates Degree in Arts &
Sciences through Virginia
Highlands Community College in
1996 and a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary
Education at Virginia Intermont
College in 1998.
I am happily married to Jason
Lawson and we have a beautiful
daughter, Laken. When I'm not
spending time with my family or
teaching, I can often be found
reading novels or creating
things for my students to use in
the classroom on the Smartboard.
I believe in using technology to
the fullest extent in my
classroom. My Smartboard
is like my best friend in the
room. I can't imagine
teaching without it now.
Students are engaged in
interactive activities related
to our Virginia SOLs daily.
The excitement from my students
is immeasurable when they get to
interact with the board. I
will also begin blogging with my
students this year as a means of
communicating ideas about what's
going on in my classroom.
What an exciting adventure!
Currently, I 'm teaching
Reading, Spelling, Math, and
Science to 5th Grade students.
I love teaching students and I
must confess, sharing my love of Reading
with students is my
absolute passion. I firmly believe
that reading is the foundation
upon which everything else
stems. Reading begins at
home with parents, and when
students enter my classroom,
I have the opportunity to work
along with parents to make sure
every student finds success in
their educational journey and
growth in reading.
I look forward to each new
exciting year. Let another
adventure begin!
