Parent Information
Welcome
to Ms. Meehan’s Second Grade Room
This
will be a year full of new and exciting learning opportunities for your child and
I look forward to being a part of your child’s growth in all areas. I also look forward to meeting you and
welcome you to the classroom throughout the school year.
The
beginning of the school year is always very busy with lots of new people to
meet and things to learn and do. This
letter will let you know about some of your child’s classroom routines,
schedules, and expectations. This will
also let you know ways we can regularly communicate about your child’s day,
classroom work, and homework, as well as pleasures, thoughts, questions or
concerns you may have.
School Information Packet
You
should find a folder of information and forms.
Please read all the information and fill out and return forms as soon as
possible. Thank you.
Yellow IP (important
papers) Folder
Your
child will come home each day with a yellow folder that will contain papers
from the day as well as any messages for you.
The cover holds a six week calendar that will keep you updated as to
events and happenings. Please sign the block each day you receive your child’s
work. There is also a section for your
comments.
I
also request your child read at least 15 minutes every day. Please write the minutes your child read
aloud to you or someone else each day on the six weeks calendar. Your child
will receive a book when he or she reads 500 minutes or more by the end of a
six weeks grading period.
The
pockets inside the folder are labeled Keep/Return. Please go through it daily as there may be
completed work, homework, or information or messages for you. You will also
find a weekly newsletter each Friday.

Classroom Behavior
Everyone
is expected to be a good citizen in our classroom and school. We discuss what it means to be a good citizen
and practice good behavior. One way to
help children check and maintain being a good citizen is using a color
system. Everyone begins each day at a green level. If needed, a child’s name will be moved to a yellow as a warning or to encourage him
or her be careful. If unacceptable behavior continues a child’s name will move
to blue and that child will have a
“silent lunch”, eating alone either that day or the following. Red is the final color change resulting
in a loss of some recess and a note home.
A child’s “color” may change back of he or she shows an effort to change
for the better.
I
hope this letter has been helpful to you and your child. If you have access to the internet please

Thank
you for all you do for your child. All
of us will help make this a year of growth and learning for your child.
